If you live in Exmouth and enjoy visiting bingo sites but are also bemoaning the lack of local bingo halls, there is some good news for you. A new licence application has been submitted for a bingo premises at Sandy Bay, Exmouth, which, if granted, would bring on-site bingo sessions to the area.
The application has been made by Haven Leisure Limited and is specifically for Capones at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park. It would allow both locals and holidaymakers to enjoy live bingo games alongside the other entertainment options offered by the park.
Devon Cliffs is already one of the most popular holiday parks in the South West, with several thousand families arriving each year to enjoy the stunning views along the Jurassic Coast. For many holiday-goers, the evening entertainment options are a big part of the experience, and bingo is hugely popular at many other similar holiday parks around the country.
The formal notice confirms that Haven Leisure Limited has applied for a Bingo Premises Licence under the Gambling Act 2005.
In straightforward terms, this type of licence enables a venue to run bingo sessions legally and in line with UK gambling regulations. The application is a standard process for venues that want to host bingo as part of their entertainment offering.
The application has been submitted to East Devon District Council, which will review the details before making a decision. At the moment, there is a short window of opportunity for written representations to be made to the Council, with the deadline set for 22 February 2026. Local residents or businesses who feel they may be affected can submit comments, which will then be taken into consideration.
While there are likely to be some objections, for many, the news will simply be seen as a positive development. Bingo remains a firm favourite across the UK, whether played in traditional clubs, online, or as part of a holiday park evening out, and adding a licensed premises within Devon Cliffs will make Sandy Bay an even more attractive prospect for visitors who enjoy a game or two during their stay. This has the potential to boost the local economy and create jobs for residents.
Capones is one of two entertainment venues in the holiday park. It is described as “the go-to place for marvellous music” with daily activities hosted by Bugsy throughout the year. The second venue is a games arcade.
The wider holiday park contains something for every age and taste. It is next door to an award-winning beach, and visitors can enjoy Tune Slides, an Aerial Adventure, and bouncy Bungee Trampolines. When it comes to food and drink, there are options such as Slim Chickens, a South Beach Café, Millie’s Cookies, and a J D Wetherspoon pub.
Visitors can also make use of both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, complete with multi-lane waterslides and flumes. Then there is a Crazy Golf course, the chance to drive 4×4 Off-Roaders on a specially constructed track, Segways, and even archery coaching.
It will be a little while yet until a decision is made regarding the bingo license at Sandy Bay. However, there seems to be little reason why it would be denied, so hopefully, it won’t be long before the holidaymakers at Devon Cliffs start shouting “house” and celebrating their bingo winnings.
