The online bingo operator Tombola has announced a new partnership with Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s leading breast cancer research and support charity. Together, they have launched the “Eyes Down, Check Up” campaign, which aims to raise £1 million and encourage one million people to regularly check their breasts for signs.

According to Cancer Research UK, one woman is diagnosed every ten minutes, and men are also affected, with one diagnosed each day. Despite these statistics, research by YouGov found that 44% of women don’t do regular checks.

The goal of this partnership is for Tombola Bingo and Breast Cancer Now to raise awareness. The online bingo operator has already committed an initial donation of £250,000 and will run five special “Bingo Against Breast Cancer” games. Each game will donate at least £50,000 to the organisation while also offering players the chance to win jackpots of up to £50,000. In addition, Tombola will host an awareness campaign at Westfield Stratford City, where brand ambassador and television personality Josie Gibson will help spread the message. Speaking about the campaign, Gibson said:

“I’m so honoured to be part of Tombola’s partnership with Breast Cancer Now and to support the amazing work they do. I didn’t realise until recently how many of us feel unsure about spotting the signs of breast cancer – me included!”

Educating People About the Signs

At the heart of “Eyes Down, Check Up” is education. Together with Breast Cancer Now, Tombola has developed an interactive tool called Breast Check Now, which takes just one minute to complete. The tool is designed to educate people about the signs and symptoms of this cancer, encourage regular self-checking, and build confidence in recognising what’s normal and when to see a GP.

Some of the key signs to look out for include:

The charity organisation stresses that around two-thirds of these cancers are identified when a person notices a new or unusual change and seeks medical advice. CEO Claire Rowney explained:

“The earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the more likely treatment will be successful. Our ambition is that by 2050, anyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and live well.”

A Community-Driven Campaign

Tombola’s Managing Director, Marion Ryan, spoke about how the campaign reflects the experiences of its player base:

“With half of our community affected by breast cancer – either personally or through someone they love – we are dedicated to standing by them and offering the support they need. This partnership is about more than just raising awareness. It’s about empowering our community with the knowledge, tools and confidence to take action.”

The “Eyes Down, Check Up” campaign represents an impressive combination of community engagement, fundraising, and awareness-raising. By tapping into Tombola’s player base and visibility, together with Breast Cancer Now’s expertise in research and support, the initiative aims to make a tangible difference in how people approach their health.

With its ambitious goals of raising £1 million and reaching one million people, the campaign has the potential to educate a vast number of people and support life-saving research. The tool that Tombola Bingo created together with Breast Cancer Now is a reminder for players, families, and communities across the UK that early detection can save lives and that by working together, a huge amount of progress can be made in the battle against breast cancer.
