Last month, Buzz Bingo celebrated an important achievement after it successfully reached its ambitious fundraising target of £200,000 for the Stroke Association after three dedicated years of effort. The announcement aligned perfectly with Stroke Awareness Month, and Buzz Bingo launched new fundraising initiatives that are designed to increase support for the important charity even further.

The Stroke Association is considered the UK’s leading organisation dedicated to assisting stroke survivors and their families. The charity has been raising awareness of the fact that every day, approximately 240 people in the UK experience a stroke. To support its work, Buzz Bingo ran a number of charity bingo games and community-driven events throughout May to raise awareness and more funds.

Special Fundraising Bingo Games

A unique charity bingo game took place every Thursday in May during Buzz’s Main Event sessions. It was offered during both the afternoon and evening sessions and participants could join the game for just £1, both online Buzz Bingo and in club venues. All proceeds generated by the games were donated to support the Stroke Association’s crucial initiatives.

In addition to the special bingo sessions, Buzz has been running a number of fundraising activities. The bingo operator joined the Sing4Stroke initiative, which is a campaign focused on the therapeutic connection between communal singing and improved stroke recovery outcomes. Employees and customers across the Buzz Bingo community embraced the initiative and sang together for the important cause. Furthermore, Issy-Mae Hunt, the current National Bingo Presenter of the Year, composed a song about Buzz Bingo’s charitable contributions.

Buzz Bingo has a proud history of charity work, which clearly demonstrates its commitment to giving back to the community. Last year, the operator worked with a prominent mental health organisation, running specialised events and thematic games at its venues to raise both awareness and funds.

Addressing Stroke Aftercare Through SA Connect

Buzz Bingo’s fundraising efforts have had a major impact on Stroke Association programmes, including SA Connect. Launched in partnership with NHS England during the COVID-19 pandemic, SA Connect is aimed at addressing the gap in immediate post-stroke support.

Given the earlier discharge times from hospitals and limited local services during the pandemic, the telephone-based service provided stroke survivors essential support within days of returning home.

Currently, only about 40% of newly diagnosed stroke survivors receive comprehensive aftercare support through local stroke recovery programs. Through fundraising partnerships like this, Buzz Bingo has helped to expand these critical services to ensure broader coverage and improved patient outcomes.

Mark Fletcher, Buzz Bingo’s Head of Brand Communications, spoke of the importance of this partnership:

“We’re delighted to support this vital partnership between the Stroke Association and the NHS. We played a number of charity bingo games in recent years including “Lucky Stars” and “Go Go Bingo” and to see those games of bingo have such a positive impact is a testament to the generosity of our community of players and colleagues.”

The Stroke Association is the only charity offering comprehensive long-term support for stroke survivors. Funds raised through Buzz Bingo charitable efforts directly contribute to vital helpline services, rehabilitation programs, and advocacy initiatives, which help towards ongoing improvements in stroke aftercare and support for those affected.
