Listen to this article:A long-time player from Worcester is celebrating after winning an incredible £50,000 while playing the National Bingo Game at Majestic Bingo, proving that bingo sites are not the only places where magic happens.
The woman won the bingo jackpot in Warndon on Monday, August 11, and has been a member of the club since 2013. She has been playing bingo for over 30 years, and she described the win as life-changing. She also explained that she won’t be keeping the prize money all to herself but will share it with her playing partner, with whom she always splits any winnings.
The winner said that she will put her winnings partly towards a well-deserved holiday, with the rest saved for her retirement. The club celebrated her success in style with a party at the end of the month. On Sunday, August 31, she was welcomed as the guest of honour at an event where more than £2,400 in prize money was awarded out to members.
The big Worcester win came after a difficult period for Majestic Bingo. Last year, the operator faced serious financial struggles and entered administration in July 2023. With eight bingo halls across the UK, 143 jobs were at risk. Of course, this caused great concern in the bingo community.
Fortunately, help arrived in December 2023. Real Fun Group, an independent bingo operator, acquired Majestic Bingo and, in doing so, saved more than 140 jobs and preserved the much-loved network of clubs across the UK. The acquisition increased Real Fun Group’s estate to 10 clubs across England and Wales, making it one of the largest independent bingo operators.
Kevin McGinnigle, CEO of Real Fun Group, spoke about the importance of the acquisition, describing bingo as “close to my heart” and noting how the clubs act as support networks for their communities.
