The internationally respected gaming solutions provider Light and Wonder has signed a major agreement with one of the biggest online bingo sites in the UK, Mecca Bingo, that will see it upgrade the gaming facilities at all 50 Mecca Bingo clubs throughout the United Kingdom.
Under the new deal, Mecca venues will undergo extensive hardware updates and the deployment of new gaming technology designed to boost reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance.
The upgrade will involve installing 850 new Equinox terminals supplied by Light and Wonder, along with substantial improvements to 645 existing T8 cabinets. These cabinets will be improved using the Mk8i hardware system, which will boost their capacity to handle expanded game selections and aid long-term operational stability.
In addition to hardware upgrades, Mecca Bingo will implement Light and Wonder’s Videobet platform across its network. The platform’s integration comes ahead of expected regulatory changes in the UK’s gambling industry and it should make complying with the new regulations simpler and enable Mecca to proactively meet changing regulatory requirements.
With the new agreement, Mecca Bingo is not only hoping to improve its infrastructure, but also provides its players with a better and more consistent experience. By standardising the hardware across Mecca Bingo
Exciting new games such as Rainbow Riches Blazing Lock are already available on the upgraded machines.
Talking about the rollout of the new hardware, Mecca Bingo’s Slots Director, Iain Graham, praised the detailed planning and professionalism shown by Light and Wonder. He said:
“From planning to installation, Light & Wonder’s professionalism and meticulous attention to detail have been exceptional. We are already seeing a clear uplift in revenue and are excited for what the future holds with Light & Wonder as a trusted collaborator.”
The deal comes at a prosperous time for Light and Wonder, following its recent $850 million acquisition of Grover Gaming’s charitable gaming assets in the United States. The company also announced excellent first-quarter 2025 revenues totalling $774 million, marking 16 consecutive quarters of annual growth.
Wayne Ellard, Vice President and Managing Director for EMEA at Light and Wonder, spoke about the importance of the new partnership, stating:
“We’re proud to support Mecca Bingo with next-generation hardware and technology. This upgrade gives their venues a strong foundation for the future while improving the player experience across the board.”
Since the upgrades were implemented, there has already been an increase in player engagement and higher revenue for Mecca Bingo, which suggests that both Mecca Bingo and Light and Wonder are well-positioned to enjoy future growth over the coming months and years.
As mentioned, Light and Wonder will be installing new Equinox terminals and upgrading the T8 cabinets for Mecca Bingo.
The T8 cabinets, which are the successors to the Triple 7 terminals, are widely used across the arcade and bingo sectors. They feature 23-inch high-definition screens, customisable artwork panels, and specialised Category C multi-game menus, which provides a diverse and bespoke gaming experience. The ongoing hardware enhancements with Mk8i upgrades will increase the terminals’ content capabilities, giving players a wider choice of games.
The Equinox terminals are known for their dynamic modular design and immersive high-definition gameplay. Available in 24-inch and 27-inch HD versions, Equinox terminals offer advanced interaction through a 15.6-inch V-deck+ interactive button panel. Additionally, the terminals feature the innovative industry-exclusive “Privacy Mode,” which allows players to enjoy a discreet gaming experience. The Equinox terminals also support customisable bezel designs, which give Mecca Bingo venues the ability to add their own branding.
The early signs are that the upgrades have been a huge success, so give the new equipment a try next time you are at your local Mecca club so that you can experience for yourself just what it can do.
