The lucky bingo player is a regular at Mecca Bilston venue in Springvale Way Retail Park, and was playing on July 24 when her big win occurred. She marked off all the numbers on her ticket in just 14 calls, achieving a full house and landing the Bilston National Bingo Game prize.
Mecca Bilston caller Billy Slater was on duty that day and has spoken about the winning moment:
“I started the game, and I heard someone shout. I looked at my screen and could see that only 14 numbers had been called, so I knew it meant that the jackpot had been triggered, and I immediately started shaking.”
“Once I’d checked the claim to confirm it was correct, I shouted at the top of my voice ‘One lucky winner takes away £50,000’. Everyone was shouting with excitement, and the winner started crying. I felt really overwhelmed for her. I spoke to her a few days later, and she still sounded shocked.”
Slater, who has been with Mecca for four years but has been calling games for only 18 months, said that moments like this are very rare, but when they do happen, they are unforgettable.
“It’s not every day that we get to tell someone that they’ve won that amount of money, so it was a really brilliant moment. I really love calling, switching on the mic and entertaining our customers.
