A woman from Bedworth, Warwickshire, is likely still celebrating after she won a £50,000 jackpot at Palace Bingo. The 67-year-old winner, who has not been named, said that she was overcome with emotion when she called house and her fellow players broke into applause.
Speaking after the win, the local woman said:
“I could not believe it when all my numbers came up, I was so shocked, but also excited. I am not sure how I will spend all the money yet but will be having a few drinks and will plan to go on holiday. Everyone in the club started clapping I was overcome with emotion. I love coming to the club and playing bingo, it is such a friendly and social environment, if you haven’t played before go for it, you’ve got to be in it to win it.”
The winner is a regular at Palace Bingo, was visiting the club on Leicester Road with her “Bingo Buddy” on the final day of April. They entered the National Bingo Game, which is also available at many online bingo sites, and she took home the top prize of £50,000 after calling full house in 16 falls or less.
While Palace may be a relatively small bingo club, it was the second time that the jackpot was won at the club in the last three years and the fifth time that the operator has seen one of its players win the jackpot in the last five years.
The manager on duty at the time, Eddie Richards, said:
“It is brilliant to see one of our most regular customers scoop the £50,000 jackpot. She is a lovely customer, and we hope she enjoys spending it. We could not be more delighted.”
Miles Baron, the Chief Executive of the National Bingo Game, added:
“We are thrilled for our lucky National Bingo Game £50,000 Jackpot winner at Palace Bingo in Bedworth. Clubs big and small can all win BIG on the National Bingo Game, and we love making winners.”
Palace Bingo in Bedworth is an independent club that runs a busy schedule for its local community. It opens seven days a week with multiple sessions a day.
While the schedule varies, there is always plenty of prize money up for grabs. For instance, a typical Friday evening might see four £50 full house prizes and seven £100 full house prizes. The ticket prices are also low, with members able to take part in all the evening’s games for between £15 and £25.
The club also runs morning events, such as its Friday Morning Breakfast Bingo, which includes a 2-page breakfast book, a cash pot flyer, tea or coffee, and a sausage batch for just £2.
Visitors to the club can also enjoy food, drink, and a number of slot machines, which remain open throughout the day. Of course, it is also possible to take part in the National Bingo Game during the afternoon and evening sessions.
Palace Bingo is a small, family-owned and operated bingo club, but it is working hard to expand. Recently, the club revealed plans for a single-story extension and major refurbishments. The planned upgrades include new interiors, improved seating, and the latest gaming technology with the aim of providing players with a more comfortable and enjoyable experience when they visit.
The building itself has a long and fascinating history. Built in the neoclassical style, it opened in 1922 as the Palace Cinema Bedworth. It could accommodate roughly 850 guests and soon became hugely popular with the local community. Not long after opening, the cinema upgraded its system so that it could show “talkies” using the latest British Thomson Houston (BTH) sound technology.
Fast-forward to the 1960s, and the Palace was hosting the occasional bingo game, and in 1963, it transformed into a dedicated bingo club under the ownership of the Miles Jervis cinema chain. Most recently, in 2012, the club was taken over by a sister and her two brothers, who inherited the business from their parents, and it has continued to delight players with its focus on community, affordability, and enjoyable bingo.
