The Clifford Street venue has officially reopened following a major refurbishment, and it marked the occasion with a special £26,000 prize weekend.

The relaunch of Buzz Bingo Newcastle club, which took place earlier this month, brought together both regular players and new visitors who were given the chance to explore the upgraded club and enjoy a packed schedule of bingo and entertainment.

Stevie Shaves, chief operating officer at Buzz Bingo, explained that the Newcastle refurbishment is part of wider investment plans across Buzz Bingo clubs.

New Lounge, Décor, and Bar

The renovation has resulted in several changes to the club. There is a new lounge area with modern booth seating so that players have a more relaxed setting to spend time between games, and visitors entering the club can admire a mural wall that celebrates local landmarks.

One of the biggest changes was to the bar itself. It is now named “Charlton’s” in honour of the late Jack Charlton. The Ashington-born football legend originally opened the club in 2005, and the new name pays homage to both the club’s history and the wider North East community.

Norman Fletcher, general manager at Buzz Bingo Newcastle, spoke about the scale of the changes, saying:

“The club has undergone an amazing transformation, and we’re so excited to share our new look with both familiar faces and new members. Naming the new bar ‘Charlton’s’ is a lovely nod to our club’s identity, and we know our customers will love the stylish new feel of the whole club. The response to the revamped décor and our lounge area so far has been amazing. It’s the bingo we all know and love, but with added sparkle. This is a place for the Newcastle community, and we can’t wait to create new winning memories in our beautiful new club, starting with our £26,000 weekender. It’s going to be incredible.”

Big Prizes to Celebrate Reopening

The reopening weekend gave visitors the chance to take part in a series of games with special prizes, and there was a total of £26,000 up for grabs across two days. Those taking part in the Saturday and Sunday sessions had the chance to win some huge full house prizes, including 10 x £100, 10 x £200, and 10 x £1,000. Alongside the bingo, the club also hosted live music and additional entertainment throughout the weekend, which added to the festive feel of the weekend.

Stevie Shaves said the upgrade “underscores Buzz Bingo’s commitment to providing the best bingo and entertainment experiences”, while also confirming that £25 million is set to be invested into venues over the coming years.

Refurbishment Reflects Thriving Bingo Industry

The refurbishment is part of a broader trend within the bingo industry. According to Shaves, bingo is seeing more interest than ever, particularly among younger players who are beginning to view clubs as a sociable and affordable night out.

However, it has not all been good news. Earlier this year, Buzz Bingo closed its Wallsend club, with its final session taking place in January. When announcing the closure, the Wallsend team described the decision as difficult and spoke of the community connections the venue had built over the years. They said:

“We’re incredibly sad to be sharing this news and know it will be a difficult time for both our wonderful community and our amazing colleagues.”

However, the relaunch of Buzz Bingo Newcastle club means that players are now able to gather together in a single, improved space. The refurbished Clifford Street location is able to welcome customers from both Newcastle and Wallsend. There is a packed schedule with plenty of large prizes, jackpots, and exciting add-ons to take advantage of, as well as promotions for new and exciting members, so bingo players in Newcastle have plenty to look forward to over the coming years.
