The Mecca Bingo club on Duke Street in Glasgow has been celebrating its three decades since it opened in 1995.

Festivities began on August 31 and culminated with a party on September 7, entertaining people with lots of fun activities outside bingo sites. The guests could enjoy lunch, special gifts, and the chance to win a share of more than £20,000 during a special evening session of bingo in celebration of Mecca Bingo Glasgow.

Impressively, four members of staff have been working at the venue since it opened thirty years ago: Margaret Mirrlees, Maureen McCarthy, Cathy Carr, and Katy Kirwan.

Reminiscing about the opening night and her time at the club, Cathy said:

“We all arrived at 4pm to open up for the evening, and there was such excitement. None of us had worked in a purpose-built bingo venue before, and it looked amazing. The night was phenomenally busy with a great atmosphere, and a lot of the customers who were there still come today. It really did feel electric on the opening evening, and I’ve worked here ever since. I love it – we’ve got customers who feel like family. We see a lot of younger people coming now, particularly at the weekend. One young couple won £100, and he said it was the best date night he’s ever had. I’ve seen people win £1 million in the past, but he was honestly the most excited customer I’ve spoken to.”

Catering to a Modern Audience

Millions have been won at Mecca Glasgow Forge over the years, with more than £3.8 million given away last year. In fact, last year saw three winners of the £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot at Mecca Glasgow Forge, in July, October and November.

Despite its age, it is a thoroughly modern venue that recently received £300,000 in investment to upgrade its facilities. The club opens daily at 10am and runs morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Beyond bingo, visitors can enjoy slot machines, a licensed bar, food, and live sports, while there is on-site parking available.

Paul McGlinchey, the general manager, said:

“We welcomed over 15,000 visitors and regular customers through Mecca Forge’s doors last year. We see everyone here – from teenagers coming in to celebrate turning 18 upwards. We can’t wait to bring everyone together to mark thirty years of being an integral part of this amazing city.”

Exciting Special Events

A number of Mecca Bingo’s special events are held at Mecca Glasgow Forge. For example, on Saturday, November 1, Zander Nation’s Bounce Bingo birthday tour will be taking place. It promises to be “the biggest and best party night” complete with dancing and dabbing, top prizes, dance-offs, conga lines, and music from Zander Nation.

If you live in Glasgow but have yet to visit Mecca Glasgow Forge, then there has never been a better time to make your first visit. New members can enjoy all their bingo and a drink for just £5 during their first visit. There are then frequent promotions to enjoy in the club, such as 50% off food on Tuesdays and one-off specials with discount bingo tickets.

As a member, if you also play online bingo, you will qualify for some fantastic monthly benefits. After visiting a club once and betting £20 online within a calendar month, you’ll receive a £5 all-games online bonus, a £5 slots club voucher, and a £5 bingo voucher in the club. Then, if you make a second club visit within a calendar month and deposit and bet £50 online, you’ll receive a £10 online bingo bonus, 50 free spins, a £10 slots voucher in the club, and a free Main Game session for you and a friend.

30 years of Mecca Bingo Glasgow captured hundreds of thousands of entertained players, and with so much going on, it is likely to keep going for many more years.
