Recently, a normal Saturday night out turned into an unforgettable experience for one bingo player, when a visit to Mecca Bingo Bilston resulted in a £50,000 jackpot win. The 24-year-old, who has chosen to remain anonymous, had not visited the Spring Vale Retail Park Mecca Bingo club for more than four years, but clearly, he chose the right night to return.
The win took place on Saturday, 7th February, during a National Bingo Game session. The Bilston bingo winner was with friends and, by his own admission, was not really following the game. His lack of attention almost led him to miss the moment entirely. When his numbers were called, he hesitated before calling “house” as he was unsure whether he had actually marked all his numbers. Even after making the claim, he was not aware of how much he had won.
Amazingly, this was the club’s second £50,000 National Bingo Game win in just six months, as a mystery woman won at Mecca Bilston in July 2025.
The £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot is won if a player matches all the numbers on their ticket within the first 16 numbers being called. The win was confirmed by the caller, Amy Shermer, and she described the atmosphere in the room as instantly charged:
“He looked absolutely stunned. It was a busy Saturday night, and when the message that we had a jackpot winner in the room flashed up on my screen, I thought, ‘Oh, my life!’. The winner looked so shocked. His friends were jumping up and down, and when another player told him that he’d hit the jackpot, he just couldn’t believe it – he thought they were winding him up and told them to ‘get lost’!”
According to Amy, the reaction in the room was instantaneous. However, it was only when the prize amount was confirmed that the player began to accept the reality of the situation. Evidently, he was overwhelmed, as Amy explained that the winner needed to step outside for some fresh air after being told he had won £50,000. “I don’t think he actually believed it until we told him that there was paperwork that we needed to fill out”, she added.
In 2025, customers at Mecca Bingo Bilston won a total of more than £1.99 million in prize money. Amy, who has worked at the club for 16 years, said the win was the biggest prize she had ever announced.
“In 16 years working here, this is the biggest prize that I’ve announced. It’s an incredible adrenaline rush when we have a big win. I love working here and making people smile.”
The previous win took place in July 2025 when a female player won £50,000 after calling house just 14 numbers into the game. That evening, the caller was Bill Slater, who said that he immediately understood what had happened when he saw how few numbers had been called.
“Once I’d checked the claim to confirm it was correct, I shouted at the top of my voice, ‘One lucky winner takes away £50,000′. Everyone was shouting with excitement, and the winner started crying. I felt really overwhelmed for her. I spoke to her a few days later, and she still sounded shocked. I’ve been at Mecca for four years, but I’ve only been calling for 18 months. It’s not every day that we get to tell someone that they’ve won that amount of money, so it was a really brilliant moment. I really love calling. switching on the mic and entertaining our customers. There’s a great atmosphere here, and if anyone is having a bad day and arrives feeling a bit down, I enjoy cheering them up.”
