There is a proud tradition of using bingo games as a way to raise money for charity in the UK and one recent example of this was at the 49 Social Club in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.

The event was run together with the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity with the aim of raising funds to install a defibrillator on the outside of the building that would then be accessible to the entire local community.

The evening began at 5 pm on Saturday 2nd December and players received 6 tickets for £10. The evening also featured a raffle, and all proceeds went to the charity. The fundraising bingo evening was part of ‘Defib December’ and several other charity events are scheduled. As of Wednesday 6th December, more than half of the target of £1750 had been raised.

The bingo community is widely known for its fundraising initiatives, so it’s no surprise that players who enjoy playing at online bingo sites also participate in these types of events.

The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity

The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) operates in the regions of Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire. This vital service provides life-saving medical care, often in critical and time-sensitive situations. GWAAC is not part of the NHS and as such, it relies heavily on donations and fundraising to maintain its operators.

At the centre of GWAAC’s services is its Air Ambulance, which is equipped with advanced medical equipment and staffed by highly trained critical care paramedics and doctors. The air ambulance can reach even the most remote locations quickly and as such, it is often the difference between life and death in emergencies such as severe accidents, medical episodes like heart attacks, or during incidents in hard-to-reach rural areas.

In addition to the air ambulance, GWAAC operates a Critical Care Team. This team, comprising specialists in critical care, can be dispatched by road to attend to emergencies. They bring skills and equipment that are typically found in the hospital emergency room directly to the patient. This immediate, advanced medical care significantly improves survival and recovery rates in severe trauma cases.

Education and training are also important parts of GWAAC’s mission. The charity is committed to enhancing pre-hospital emergency medical knowledge. They do this through the provision of training and education programmes for local medical professionals and first responders. This way, GWAAC ensures that the broader medical community is better equipped to handle emergencies, enhancing overall patient care in the region.

GWAAC’s commitment to innovation and excellence in emergency medical care is evident in their continual investment in the latest medical technology and equipment. This investment not only improves the care they can provide but also ensures the team can respond effectively to a wide range of medical emergencies. The efforts to install a defibrillator on the outside of the 49 Social Club are a good example of this.

The charity’s work is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff who engage in fundraising activities, community engagement, and awareness campaigns. These efforts are crucial as they allow GWAAC to continue providing its invaluable services to the community.

Many More Charity Bingo Events

Bingo lovers looking to get involved in a charity bingo event are likely to find plenty taking place in their local area. A quick Google search is usually enough to locate something happening in the near future. For example, this week, there was an event to raise money for Breast Cancer Research UK and the Corn Exchange in Dorchester and next week, there is a charity bingo night in aid of We Hear You, the cancer counselling service, taking place at the Victoria Field Social Club in Street, Somerset.

There are even charity bingo events that take place online and many online bingo sites also host special charity games. In short, there are plenty of opportunities to raise money for charity while playing bingo this month and since it is the season of giving, it is the perfect December activity.
