At the Mecca Bingo club in St Helens, recently bingo player won a jackpot prize of more than £56,000. Those present at the club on Kirkland Street broke into applause after the win took place during the Big Bonus game.

Mecca began offering its Big Bonus game last year. It features a progressive jackpot that is won when a player calling house before the call limit has been met. The game costs just £1 to play and it takes place twice each day in Mecca’s clubs across the UK.

The player, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said that she and the rest of her family only decided at the last moment to visit the bingo club after she received a flyer through the post.

When arriving at the club, she opted to pay the £1 for the Big Bonus game. Upon calling house, the player initially thought she had won the local club prize of £1,600. It wasn’t until the staff informed her that she had actually won the national jackpot. That time, she realized she had won more than £56,000 at bingo.

Speaking about the win, Peter Munster, the assistant manager at Mecca St Helens, said:

“The whole club applauded, and customers went over to congratulate her. It’s an emotional feeling when we have a big winner, and some of the staff were even crying. The customer was so shocked that after confirming her win, she decided to go home to let it all sink in!”
