The player, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said that she and the rest of her family only decided at the last moment to visit the bingo club after she received a flyer through the post.
When arriving at the club, she opted to pay the £1 for the Big Bonus game. Upon calling house, the player initially thought she had won the local club prize of £1,600. It wasn’t until the staff informed her that she had actually won the national jackpot. That time, she realized she had won more than £56,000 at bingo.
Speaking about the win, Peter Munster, the assistant manager at Mecca St Helens, said:
“The whole club applauded, and customers went over to congratulate her. It’s an emotional feeling when we have a big winner, and some of the staff were even crying. The customer was so shocked that after confirming her win, she decided to go home to let it all sink in!”
Those in the St Helens area will find that there is a lot going on at the Mecca club. It opens at 11 am each day and visitors will find a bar, a varied food and drink menu, and an enjoyable collection of slot machines.
The afternoon session begins at 12 pm and it costs just £2 for three games that take place over a half hour. There is then a two-hour session containing games that cost just £10. Finally, another set of three games begins at 2:45 pm and they cost £2.50.
The action then resumes at 5 pm with an hour of electronic bingo for £2.50. Then, starting at 6:20 pm, visitors can enjoy two games for just £1. Two hours containing 18 bingo games for £5 starts at 7 pm and then finally, there are four games for £5 in an hour starting at 9:10 pm.
