The win took place on 16 April at the Duke Street club, where the player has been a regular for many years. According to reports, they have been visiting it with their family since Mecca Bingo Glasgow opened 30 years ago, so some might say that they are long overdue for a big win.
The lucky player was taking part in the National Bingo Game when the big win arrived. To win the £50,000 jackpot, a player must complete a full house within the first 16 numbers called, which is exactly what the Glaswegian player did.
The winner is said to be planning to use the money for a holiday, which sounds like a pretty good way to celebrate a £50,000 jackpot.
According to those present, the atmosphere inside Mecca Bingo Glasgow Forge was absolutely electric when the win took place. Sharon Kennedy, duty manager at Mecca Glasgow Forge on the night of the win, said:
“The atmosphere in club was amazing, with all the customers clapping and cheering. The winner was shocked but very excited about the win. We’re always thrilled for our winners, but the £50k National Bingo Game jackpot is a real cause for celebration!”
The National Bingo Game is played in participating bingo clubs across the UK and is one of the most popular linked bingo games in the country.
Players can win different jackpot amounts depending on how quickly they complete a full house. In this case, the Glasgow winner completed the full house within 16 numbers, which triggered the £50,000 prize.
However, while £50,000 is a huge amount of money, it is not the largest National Bingo Game prize up for grabs. If a player manages to complete a full house in 14 numbers or fewer, then they will take home an enormous £250,000. Incredibly, there have already been a few £250,000 winners this year, including a player at Club 3000 in Wigan in February, a player at Buzz Bingo Cricklewood in April, and a player at Coronet Bingo in Didcot, also in April.
It is also possible to win £1,000 by calling a full house in 20 numbers or fewer, and £100 by calling a full house in 24 numbers or fewer.
