Listen to this article:A very lucky player from South Yorkshire, who is a regular at the hall, took home an impressive £20,000 in total prizes. The Buzz Bingo player won twice in the space of just two weeks leading up to Christmas, and she is probably still celebrating.
The lucky Buzz Bingo player, Rita, was delighted with her first £10,000 prize, which came in early December. However, no one could have predicted that just a fortnight later, Rita would return to the Buzz Bingo club and repeat the feat, calling “house” again to secure another £10,000.
Rita said that the £20,000 will go towards a well-earned holiday and some special treats for her family.
Steve Edward, the general manager at Buzz Bingo Sheffield Parkway, called the reaction in the club unforgettable.
“We couldn’t be happier for Rita and her fantastic double win. To win £10,000 once is incredible, but to return just two weeks later and win it again is truly unbelievable. With our newly-refurbished club, it’s been amazing to see so much excitement and energy in the room — everyone was cheering from their seats.”
Rita’s success came soon after the Sheffield Parkway club was fully renovated. The refurbishment updated and enhanced the facilities, with the aim of creating a brighter, more modern environment while keeping the bingo club’s familiar social feel. According to the club’s management, the changes have already brought a renewed sense of energy to the venue.
The renovation of the Sheffield club is just a small part of Buzz Bingo’s national strategy. Starting in July 2025, Buzz Bingo began a £25 million modernisation programme, backed by funding from Barclays, aimed at upgrading all 91 of its venues across Britain over the coming years.
Sheffield Parkway was among the first clubs to be upgraded, together with locations in Leeds and Stockport. The investment has brought thousands of new electronic bingo terminals, next-generation self-service kiosks, and digital registration points in every club. More than 1,300 new slot machines are also being installed, along with fully integrated digital membership cards that are designed to improve the overall player experience.
Dominic Mansour, CEO of Buzz Bingo, has described the programme as a key part of the company’s long-term vision.
“Our new investment programme will see clubs across our estate being transformed. This is all about modernising bingo for the next generation of players and taking our clubs to the next level to offer a truly unmatched experience for our players.”
Recent years have been challenging for Buzz Bingo. The modernisation of its venues was originally planned earlier in the decade; however, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to delay its plans. Temporary closures and financial pressure led to a Company Voluntary Arrangement between 2020 and 2021, during which 26 clubs closed permanently. However, the business stabilised in 2021 after Intermediate Capital Group acquired a majority stake and provided funding to support recovery and future growth.
The refurbished Sheffield Parkway club contains elements of what Buzz Bingo describes as the “Bingo Club of the Future”. Updates include a redesigned main hall featuring a 12-metre screen, a new player lounge, and an upgraded bar area. Local touches have also been added, with wall murals featuring Sheffield’s landmarks and cultural moments that were chosen with input from the club’s team.
Steve Edward summed up the ambition behind the changes, calling the venue “one of the best bingo clubs in the country” and added, “This is not just a refurbishment, this is the future of bingo.”
The double Buzz Bingo win in Sheffield definitely boosted the lucky player’s spirits and ensured a great Christmas for the whole family.
